Bulls take momentum to finale

Tornadoes Red and the Bulls will square off in the Bunbury Basketball Association men’s grand final tomorrow night at the South West Sports Centre at 9.30pm.

The Bulls, who have been building throughout the second half of the season, enter the game with a ton of momentum, with the cohesive yet versatile nature of their offence proving too much for many to handle.

But irrespective of the outcome tomorrow night, Bulls stalwart Clive Weeden, pictured, is proud of what the younger players have accomplished.

“It has been a tumultuous season I guess,” he said. “We had 10 guys who first started with us, but some of them had to pull out for family reasons and things like that.

“We then had a whole heap of different young guys fill in — I was still introducing myself to people in the middle of January.

“And so I think once we got some consistent bodies towards the end of the season, when we were pushing for a spot in the finals, we actually got to understand how each other played.

“We have that core group now that everyone is more confident with what the other guys want to do.”

In the women’s decider, Tornadoes Black will be aiming for a premiership three-peat if they take care of business against Aces Sky (7.30pm).

Naturally, every season is different and for Tornadoes Black coach Julieann Bissaker it has been a campaign with only one legitimate “senior” in Kelly Bastow.

“I think it is amazing for our club that we have all of these young kids able to be given an opportunity,” Bissaker said.

“They are actually stepping up, holding their own and contributing.”
