The long-awaited Bunbury Outer Ring Road will be given a multi-million dollar boost after Premier Mark McGowan confirmed the project would be progressed.

The Outer Ring Road is one of several projects to be funded in a bid to improve safety on regional roads under a State and Commonwealth agreement.

Mr McGowan this morning announced $12.5 million would be invested in planning the bypass road to “progress the design of the future project”.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said the funding boost was a win for the entire State with freight, safety and congestion expected to be improved.

“The Bunbury Outer Ring Road will improve safety around the port and have flow-on benefits for traffic congestion along Robertson Drive and parts of the Forrest and Bussell highways,” she said.

The Bunbury project is among $89 million to be spent on regional roads to address road safety issues across WA.

The detailed works program will be developed over the next year with delivery of projects in 2018-19, but the money will be spent over the next three years and generate 280 jobs, according to Mr McGowan.
