Bunbury club back in form, Coleman nets seven gold

The Bunbury Swimming Club ended a six-year reign by the Peel Aquatic Swimming Club, winning the Country Pennants A-grade championship in Kalgoorlie at the weekend.

The team of 33 swimmers was awarded the relay trophy and the A-grade pennant for highest overall combined points at the meet.

Peel finished second while Albany placed third.

Drew Coleman, 8, was a stand out performer at the meet, winning seven gold medals.

Drew won gold medals in the boys 8 years and under 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 50m breaststroke events and was also a member of four winning freestyle and medley relay teams.

Amy Duncan, 12, was awarded the Closest to State Record trophy for her swim in the girls 12 years and under 50m freestyle.

Joshua Hunt, 11, Kaiden Richings, 12, Sam Ellis, 12, and Owen Cattaway, 12, combined to set a new meet record in the boys 12 years and under medley relay.

Courtney Lee, 17, also set a new meet record in the women’s open 100m backstroke.

Seven of the club’s performance squad swimmers were also recognised for achieving a top six time at the meet.

Club head coach Toni Moore said the win was a wonderful reward for the swimmers, coaching team, executive committee and parents who have worked hard to get the club back to the top of country swimming.
