Bunbury posties roll with new idea
Bunbury posties are rolling with an Australia-wide trial and trading in their motorcycles for electric bicycles.
Australia Post has converted a number of its motorcycle rounds to electric-assisted bikes in a bid to “optimise” its delivery service.
So far more than 140 rounds have been switched in Western Australia, including two in Bunbury.
An Australia Post spokesman said the aim of the initiative was to improve the company’s service and safety.
“As our business transforms, we are looking at the best methods of transport for our posties,” the spokesman said.
“We’re optimising our current modes of delivery nationally.
“Where it makes sense to do so, we’ll be converting motorcycle rounds to electric bicycles.
“The end goal is to have the right mode that best suits the delivery round to enhance the customer experience and ultimately the safety of our people.”
Bunbury postman Ashley Taylor said while it might be harder work on a bicycle, he enjoyed cycling his way through his mail round.
“I like it, I’m getting fitness while I’m working,” Mr Taylor said.
“You get some big hills which can be a bit tougher, but it’s not too bad with the motor.”
