Bunbury Primary School complete incredible decade of dominance, winning 10th consecutive interschool carnival

A South West primary school has reached a mind-boggling sporting milestone — winning an incredible 10 consecutive interschool swimming carnivals. Bunbury Primary School’s decade of wins was completed at March’s carnival and has been described as the school’s principal as “huge achievement”. “It is about the dedication of the students and the parents to swimming and sports,” BPS principal Franca Dillon said. “It is hard to believe we have actually achieved it 10 years in a row but it is to the credit of the community, the students and the families. “I’m sure our previous students who have contributed to that will be proud.” Bunbury’s dominance comes after Dalyellup College won the first three editions of the carnival in its current form. Flynn Mogridge was the school’s only year group champion — winning backstroke and breastroke — but the year five student had a simple philosophy. “I was pretty happy. I just sort of wing it,” he said. Swimmer Sage Slater said the importance on the milestone was not lost on him. “I am pretty proud of it, it is a really good opportunity to represent the school and the 10 years is really special,” he said. “It is for all the people that have swum for the school, even if they missed out on the 10 years.” The achievement was especially significant for Sage, whose finished as runner-up champion boy four years after his older brother Isaac also swam for the school. Sage, fellow Year 6 swimmer Sasha Paterson, Year 5 swimmers Flynn and Ruby House and Meg Wallis, Year 4, all came home with medals.
