Bunbury Senior High School students on national stage as they show their work skills

With the WA hospitality industry looking to boost its workforce, the skills of three Bunbury Senior High School students are set to be seen on the national stage.

Sky Burgess, Jessica Cherry and Imogen Hunt are set to represent Western Australia in this week’s 2021 WorldSkills Australia National Championships, to be held in Perth.

Kicking off today and running until Saturday at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, the students are expected to showcase their skills via satellite sites around the country as they compete for gold in their chosen skill.

While Sky and Imogen will be competing in the food and beverage competition, Jessica will take part in hairdressing.

Sky said she first became interested in food and beverage as a career after starting work at a local fast food outlet and discovering a passion for food and serving customers.

To pursue that passion, she began studying food and beverage through TAFE and embraced it as a pathway.

For Jessica, a love of art and craft, combined with a passion for hairdressing, saw her mesh the two worlds together.

The event will broadcast via satellite sites across Australia to get around COVID-19 restric-tions.
