Bunbury trio lead cystic fibrosis plea

Three brave Bunbury brothers stole the hearts of more than 700 guests at the Capel Vale Conquer Cystic Fibrosis Grand Ball in Perth at the weekend.

Oliver, Spencer and Connor Barrett officially opened the stylish event at the Crown Perth Grand Ballroom on Saturday when guests rallied to raise nearly $200,000 for a cause close to the family.

Connor is living with cystic fibrosis, but the disease did little to stop the bubbly three-year-old from stealing the show.

The boys’ mother and Conquer Cystic Fibrosis committee member Taryn Barrett said she was extremely proud of the event.

“Not only am I very proud of my boys but I am also incredibly grateful to the generous donors in the room who will literally save lives,” Mrs Barrett said.

“From this event and other fundraisers throughout the year, we will be able to grant about $250,000 to CF researchers while also buying an innovative lung transplant machine for WA.

“This Ex Vivo Lung Perfusion machine represents the next frontier in transplant medicine.

“In end-stage cystic fibrosis, lung transplants are the only option for survival and we need to ensure that the incredible surgeons here in Perth have access to the most powerful tools to extend lives.

“Young people with cystic fibrosis undergoing this risky surgery deserve every chance to breathe deeply again and live a full life.”

The boys were also joined by the siblings of Eaton four-month-old Joshua Williams and the Lawrence family from Margaret River in a heart-warming awareness video produced and donated by Bunbury company Lomax.

It was aired in the ballroom for the first time.

Raising awareness for cystic fibrosis will continue in Bunbury this Friday with 65 Roses Day.
