Bunbury welcomes the Queen’s Baton
Starting its journey at Buckingham Palace on March 13, 2017, the Queen’s Baton took a tour of Bunbury today on its way to the Gold Coast for the Commonwealth Games starting April 4.
Former Bunbury MLA John Castrilli and City of Bunbury Surf Life Saving Club president Denise Duncan were two of 19 people from the Greater Bunbury area chosen to walk the baton which carried the Queen’s message through the city’s streets.
The baton arrived in WA yesterday and will spend six days travelling through 19 communities, starting in Albany and finishing in Karratha.
Pam Glossop carried the Baton for its first leg from Bunbury Primary School down Lovegrove Avenue, before it travelled down Spencer Street, Wittenoom Street, Symmons Street, Ocean Drive, Marlston Drive and Victoria Street.
Joyce McGinn completed the final stretch into the Graham Bricknell Memorial Musical Shell surrounded by a guard of honour.
Commonwealth Games athlete Jayde Taylor and Paralympian Brad Scott also attended the celebration to meet and greet fans.
