American speedway driver Cory Eliason has claimed another victory on the track, dashing to victory in Ellenbrook to extend his lead in the Speedway Australia Sprintcar Speedweek series.

Eliason, who drives for Bunbury-based Diamond Bay Motorsport, won the feature race during the fifth round of the series at Ellenbrook Speedway on Saturday.

It marked his third win from five WA outings so far, followed by compatriot Tyler Courtney in second place and WA driver James Inglis in third.

At the start of the meet, Eliason was quickest overall to set the Victory 1 Performance Quick Time and placed fourth in his heat race.

In the A Dash, Eliason raced from third position to take the win, setting up a front row start for the feature race, where he managed a fantastic start.

The feature race went 26 laps non-stop before the third American in the field, Brock Zearfoss, spun around near the finish line.

On the restart Eliason led away from Courtney, Inglis, Callum Williamson and Daniel Harding at a cracking pace.

However, the red lights came on soon afterwards with cars scattered at different parts of the track.

In the run to the finish line, Eliason was too good, extending his lead for the series to 742 points, 16 points ahead of Courtney (726 points) with just two more rounds to go.

Following the win, Eliason said he felt like it was “a really good night overall” and helped towards his goal of recording wins at all of the WA tracks before heading over east.

Bunbury’s Dayne Kingshott was one of the drivers to not make the cut for the 20-car final after spinning out in the Midpack race, dropping from equal-second in the Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series to fourth on 1292 points after nine rounds of the overall series.

Inglis extended his lead from 16 points to 28 points after placing third in the feature race.

The sixth Speedweek round and the 10h round of the overall Sprintcar series will be held at Bunbury Speedway this Saturday.
