Bunbury’s Jayden Goodwin wins first Premier Cricket flag for Subiaco-Floreat in dramatic finish at the WACA

Bunbury star Jayden Goodwin has won his maiden first-grade premiership at the Premier Cricket club his father Murray once captained. The 20-year-old opener, who earlier this summer made his first-class debut, was a part of the Subiaco-Floreat side which won a bizarre two-day thriller at WA’s home of cricket on Sunday. The Lions knocked off a South Perth side which included Dunsborough quick Liam Dallimore, winning on the first innings by just one run. Goodwin made just one in the first innings, dismissed by State teammate Cam Gannon as his side was rolled for just 118. But the Lions forced their way back into the contest, rattling through South Perth’s top order to have them 8-81 at stumps on day one. Michael Hart took the crucial final wicket to leave them one run ahead after the first innings, before Goodwin’s second innings score of 21 from 65 balls helped his team bat out the final day. The prodigiously talented opener missed the club’s Premier T20 tournament triumph over Melville earlier this month, struck down by COVID. His first premiership for the club came on the same day Murray helped Colts to a first-grade flag in Bunbury and just weeks after younger brother Ashton was named player of the match in the BDCA’s Year 12 grand final. Goodwin was left out of the Western Australia team that travelled to New South Wales to play the Blues this week.
