Burekup mountain biking sensation Connor Wright wins three gold medals at National Championships

Burekup mountain biking sensation Connor Wright brought home a swag of gold medals from the 2025 Mountain Bike National Championships at Victoria’s Mt Buller last week.
The 16-year-old opened the championships by being part of a winning team relay outfit on Thursday alongside teammates Zoe Cuthbert, Rohin Adam and Harry Doye.
He then went on to claim the under-19 cross-country titles in both the short track and Olympic disciplines across Friday and Sunday.
Riding the first leg of the relay, Wright was at the forefront of a dominant performance, producing the fastest lap of the race and putting a gap of more than seven seconds on his closest rival.
Speaking after the race, Wright said he loved relays because of the opportunity they provided to be part of a team.
“I find it makes the racing a little more special, (it’s) probably my favourite race I get to do,” he said.
“You get to race with categories you normally wouldn’t get to race with, and I think that’s a really valuable opportunity.”
In the short-track race on Friday, Wright completed his ride just under 30 seconds clear of his nearest competitor in a time of 22min 40.68sec.
The finishing touch was applied to a brilliant week in the Olympic race, where his effort of 45:26.16 proved enough to finish just shy of two minutes clear of the field over the longer distance.
Wright’s success at the national championships came after he won short track and Olympic races at the MTB National Series event in Canberra earlier this month.
