Bunbury Geographe Chamber of Commerce and Industry is urging businesses to heed warnings from police following an increase in burglaries in the city.

The chamber this morning forwarded a high alert warning to its members to take further security measures after a spate of burglaries at the Homemaker Centre and light industrial area at Davenport.

“Offenders have gained entry through fire/emergency doors by manipulating the lock,” the alert said.

“Once inside the business premises the offenders have been removing the security camera hard drive and property.”

Businesses have been advised to fit a metal plate to the outside of the doors in an effort to make it more difficult for thieves.

“The metal plate does not breach Building Code of Australia 2016 in relation to fire/emergency doors,” it said.

“Further it is advised that each business review where they install the hard drive for their security cameras to make it more difficult for the offenders to locate if entry should be gained.”

The alert was initiated by Bunbury police and South West Crime Prevention.

Suspicious activity can be reported to police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
