Capel Regional Equestrian Park gets $250,000 State grant for redevelopment of ageing pavilion
Capel’s extensive equestrian community can expect some major upgrades following funding from the State Government towards the redevelopment of facilities.
Collie-Preston MLA Jodie Hanns announced last Friday the Shire of Capel Regional Equestrian Park would receive a $250,000 grant from the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund.
The grant will contribute to the construction of a new pavilion to replace the current facilities, including a new clubhouse, kitchen, meeting area and ablution facilities.
Shire of Capel president Doug Kitchen said the funding would continue to support a much-loved space within the community.
“Equestrian is a very popular sport and recreational activity in our community, and importantly, one that is popular with entire families where enthusiasts of all ages participate,” he said.
“It will be great to see the new pavilion facilities finished and being enjoyed by the local community and visiting equestrian participants.”
Capel Regional Equestrian Park management committee chair Stephanie Davill said the space is an important meeting ground for the community.
“The sports pavilion is central to all their activities, it’s where meetings are held, plans are made, scores are kept, officials and visitors welcomed, where ribbons and trophies are handed out, it’s where our equestrian community connects and grows,” she said.
“It will be of great benefit not only to the local equestrian community but also to all those who come from all over the State and even interstate to participate or compete in the events held here in Capel.”
Ms Hanns said it was a much needed boost for the ageing centre.
“This much needed upgrade will support Capel Regional Equestrian Park to continue to host pony club, campdraft and other equine events, whilst providing a boost to the local economy with hundreds, if not thousands of visitors to Capel each year.”
