Carey Park scouts reach the top
Two Carey Park scouts received Australian Scout Medallions – the highest award in scouting – on July 17.
The award is earned through participation in a scout leadership course after a pioneer badge has been completed.
The scouts must also demonstrate active leadership and achieve their adventurer cord.
Kyla Hay and Elizabeth Denby, both 14, started in Joey Scouts with the friends, completing much of their scouting together over the past seven years.
Kyla said the pair had been working towards the prestigious medallion for years.
She was particularly proud to have “finally” accomplished the achievement beside her long-time friend.
Kyla said it had been a lot of work collecting the badges required, including first aid, hiking and 10 hours of community service.
“We both knew what we had to do and knew we would get it at the same time which was very fitting,” she said.
In March next year the pair will head to Government House to receive their certificate from the Governor of Western Australia, Kim Beazley.
