WA iSports hosted a Rock ’n’ Bowl event earlier this month at Bunbury Tenpin Bowl, an event that was to serve at the organisation’s primary fundraiser for the year.

At the time, committee member Rock Wells said the target was around $1000 to cover the coming year’s costs and expenses.

Two weeks on, it has been revealed the event raised $2900, almost triple the original goal.

“We had heaps of people turn up ... we kind of exceeded our expectations so it was awesome to have that support form the community,” Mr Wells said.

“We were hoping for around about $1000, maybe $1500, so to more than double that was really nice.

“To have that pay off at the end of it all, everybody was just blown away.”

Not only did the event draw in people hoping to get as many strikes as possible, but also a healthy crowd of spectators who just wanted to soak up the atmosphere.

With so much extra funding now available, WA iSports can set about launching some new programs.

“We’re running things like AFL but we’re also trying to get athletics off the ground now as well,” Mr Wells said.

“Things like training our volunteers, helping to pay for court hire for basketball ... one of our big things is keeping the costs as low as possible for our athletes and making it as accessible as possible.”

The success of the Rock ’n’ Bowl event has negated the need for another large scale fundraiser this year, although several small scale events are still in the pipeline according to Mr Wells.

“It’s put us in a much better position than expected,” he said.
