When driving along the south coast, keep an eye out for Australia’s newest superhero - Catman!

Kentaro Jin, or Catman as he likes to be known, is attempting to walk across the continent from Carnarvon to Sydney with nothing more than his wheelbarrow and public support.

Passing through Bunbury this week Catman can be seen in his florescent colours with his trusty wheelbarrow and can do attitude.

He started his journey in November last year, setting off from Carnarvon into an empty desert during the intense summer heat.

Catman thinks the remaining journey will take close to a year.

“I want to be a hero,” he said.

Catman said he finds places to sleep along the side of the road, but has been welcomed into the homes of several kind people along his journey.

The support from the public has been the main thing keeping me going, he said.

“Many Australian people say hello to me,” he said.

“They give me beer, food and water to keep going.”

He said his trusty wheelbarrow is called a ‘cat’ in his native Japan, and thus Catman was born.

Catman said Geraldton has been his favourite place so far, but that might change as has he enters the South West.

With a huge portion of his journey still to go, Catman will need the support of people more than ever.
