Celebrating all things French
Frock up in your Moulin Rouge-themed best for a soirèe celebrating Bastille Day with the South West French Club on Friday, July 14.
The National French Day commemorates the fall of the French monarchy in 1789, which led to the beginning of a democratic society.
Club member Tony Edwards has invited all “Francophones and Francophiles” to join the fun-filled event from 6pm at the Bunbury Senior Citizens Centre which will feature live music from the jazz-funk trio, Chocolatè.
“Visitors can expect lots of dancing and singing,” Mr Edwards said.
“They will be singing La Marseillaise, not only in French, but also an Australian version which is really interesting.”
Mr Edwards said the club consisted of three types of people: “French speakers, people who want to speak French and the people who speak no French – so don’t be put off coming if you don’t speak the language,” he said.
Fellow member Catherine Dorant said people from other French-speaking nations were also welcome to join the festivities.
“French is spoken throughout the world and people are welcome from any country,” she said.
“People travel from Collie and all across the South West to come along.”
Food will be set out cabaret-style, with guests asked to bring along a plate of French-inspired canapes, petit fours and drinks to share.
The celebration will include prizes for the best Moulin Rouge costumes and a raffle for a chance to win a French inspired hamper.
