Charity golf day a chance to dress up

Golfers are needed to tee-off for a good cause in the second annual charity day at the Capel Golf Club tomorrow.

The 18-hole, four-ball ambrose competition will raise money for Melanoma WA and as usual, competitors are being asked to dress up, with a prize for best costume to be handed out.

The popular competition is open to members and visitors, with no handicap required to compete.

Last year the charity day was held for the first time and 24 teams of four golfers raised $3500 for the Melanoma WA.

Capel Golf Club general manager Paul Campaner said he was pleased with last year’s turnout, but the club’s management was aiming for about 30 teams to compete this year.

“This was an idea formed by our former captain in Duncan Scott,” he said.

“We came up with this event as a way to replace the two-day event we traditionally had on this long weekend.

“We are hoping this year to raise about $4000, but really we are just hoping improve every year so that it gets bigger and better.”

Mr Campaner said the reason the club chose Melanoma WA was because golf was an outdoor sport.

Entries for the competition close today. The shotgun start will begin at 11am on Saturday.
