Classic trip down memory lane for Ocean Star residents
Ocean Star aged care residents received a pre-Christmas treat when they cruised around Bunbury in classic cars on Thursday.
Peter Newman, Wayne Turner and Brad and Amanda Coleman brought joy to the residents with their classic cars, with some car owners making the trip from Greenbushes and Perth, while others gave up their lunch break to get involved.
Carer Darlene Satterthwaite said the facility was “very grateful” for the kind gesture and that residents were “still talking about it the day after”.
“It was so nice of the gentleman who came and so lovely for the residents who thoroughly enjoyed it,” she said.
“They drove right through the centre of Bunbury and were waving to people on the street.
“It was good to get them out and into the community.”
Facility manager Gwen Gorski said even those who were unable to go for a ride had enjoyed the opportunity to see the cars and reminisce.
“The club did an excellent job, it was a really successful day,” she said.
“I would like to thank them for their time and we would love to have them again.”
Mr Turner brought his 1964 Falcon Sprint along on the day after seeing a request posted by Ocean Star lifestyle facilitator Robyn Gibbons on Facebook.
“I have had this car for 10 years and people just love seeing it and these people relate with the classic cars,” he said.
“It gives them a day out and something to talk about.”
