Millbridge’s young residents now have the chance to make the most of a day out with a new playground officially open to enjoy.

Karrak Park was opened by Collie-Preston MLA Jodie Hanns and the Shire of Dardanup on Monday, July 17, with locals already enjoying the new playground facilities.

The playground was built on public open space between Millbridge Boulevard and Denison Link after the Shire received a petition from resident Kaid Marshall for a play space to be developed in the area.

The new playground features play equipment suitable for kids up to four years old, shade sails, fencing, a circuit path around the playground, nature play opportunities, softfall material, seating with circulation space for prams and wheelchair access, and a welcome sign with a funding acknowledgement and reserve name.

The playground was named Karrak Park in consultation with local traditional owners, incorporating the Noongar word for the red-tailed black cockatoo.

It was built by contractor Active Discovery and delivered via a $75,000 election commitment from Ms Hanns, along with contributions from the Shire and the Ardross Estate Growing Millbridge fund.

Ms Hanns said the playground was “a fantastic addition to the area” and would be a valuable community asset.

“I’m proud to have delivered on my election commitment to the community and worked with the Shire of Dardanup and Ardross Estate to see this project come to life,” she said.

“I look forward to seeing local families enjoy this space for many years to come.”

Shire president Mick Bennett acknowledged the efforts of Mr Marshall, who put the project on the council’s radar by submitting a petition with 261 signatures.

“It represents a fantastic example of the community coming to us with an idea and shows how we can all work together on improving life in the Shire of Dardanup for everyone,” he said.
