Colts’ bowlers leave Hay Park in tatters
Hay Park’s batting line-up was dismantled for just 44 runs as Colts claimed a dominant 10-wicket win at the Bunbury Recreation Ground on Saturday.
After being sent into bat, the Redbacks lasted just 18.4 overs, as Connor Ipsen (4-15 off seven overs) and Jake Boyle (4-12 off six overs) sent batsmen back to the shed on a regular basis.
Opening batsman Michael Tassone (14) was the only Redback to reach double figures in what was their worst showing of the season.
Brendan Jones (6) was the first to fall when Ipsen bowled him, before last week’s hero Charlie Home recorded a 10-ball duck thanks to Josh Topliss (1-17 off three overs), just seven days after the English import scored an excellent half century.
Redbacks captain Jono Whitney was caught by Ipsen off the bowling of Boyle not long after and Hay Park looked in poor shape at 3-30.
Tassone’s resistance was short lived as Ipsen claimed his second scalp, before Martyn Foster (3) became the young all-rounder’s third victim.
Tom Scott (4) gave Ipsen a fourth scalp when he was trapped lbw and then the lower order crumbled, as the final four wickets fell for just five runs.
Jono Miller (4), James Ewing (2) and Jack Charters (0) were all victims off Boyle, who was a star with the ball, while Joe Barningham (1-0 off 2.4 overs) grabbed the final wicket of Shaun Bulman (0).
Colts needed just 6.4 overs to chase the miserly total, with Jaysen Miguel (10) and Jayden Goodwin (25) dominating the bowling on the way to a strong victory.
