Community welcome to join school’s yoga for cause
Students and staff from Newton Moore Senior High School are set to host a charity yoga event on Monday from 5pm for the benefit of the South West Refuge.
Organised by the Year 12 leadership team, the event will be held on the grassed area outside the school’s performing arts building and will be tailored to suit all experience levels, with entry just a gold coin donation.
“Anyone in the community is invited, students, parents, family members, basically anyone from the wider community is welcome,” teacher Jessica Sabourne said.
“People will need to bring a yoga mat but we’ll have a few if people don’t have one.”
School wellness and program coordinator Donelle McInerney will be on hand to help the leadership team lead the session and said the event came about based on the success of last year’s beach yoga session held at Koombana Bay.
“The student executives have three fundraisers a year for charities in the local area rather than nationally, so we chose the South West Refuge,” she said.
“We wanted to have an activity that would enable lots of different people to try something that could be really good for their wellness.”
