The long-awaited Dalyellup skate park has taken another step forward after the Capel Shire Council agreed on the preferred construction tender for the job.

The council accepted Convic Pty Ltd as the preferred tender for the park with the budgeted construction cost of more than $1.6 million.

The council secured more than $700,000 in funding for the project through a $200,000 Community Sport and Recreation Facilities Fund grant last year and a $522,200 Lotterywest grant in December 2019.

Capel Shire president Michael Southwell said he was glad to see movement on a “long-awaited project” which is his “personal favourite.”

It follows years of planning and community consultation dating back to its first proposal in July 2013, and local residents leading the move to address the growing population in the area.

The 1125sqm skate park will include a “plaza style” skate area, skate bowl, barbecue area, carpark and shade.

The new design incorporates 28 new trees planted during the landscaping process as part of an environmental sustainability offset.
