Darren’s Ride supports vital MND cause

Bunbury’s P&N Bank has helped keep the wheels rolling on a campaign inspired by a South West man.

Darren’s Ride has been awarded a $2000 grant from the bank’s Helping Hands program.

His wife and founder of the organisation, Kirsten said Darren’s Ride was created to help those with MND live the best life they could for as long as possible.

Ms Whitby said the funding was much appreciated and would help raise awareness about the need for research for MND.

“Darren lost his battle with MND just three months from diagnosis, aged only 50, and his family and friends did not want his death to be in vain,” she said.

“Darren loved living in our beautiful South West, loved riding his bike, catching a wave and having his gorgeous dog Darcy by his side – so we are continuing his ride through life by fundraising for local care and support to help other West Australians and their families who are impacted by MND.”

To date, Darren’s Ride has raised more than $62,000 with the funds split evenly between the Motor Neurone Association of WA and MND Australia.

MND sufferers progressively lose the ability to walk, talk, move, eat and eventually even breathe. Two people die from MND every day in Australia, while two are diagnosed every day.

P&N Bank Bunbury branch manager Donna Gibbs said the bank was delighted to be able to help a passionate South West organisation.

“P&N’s Helping Hand program is all about providing financial support where it is needed and we are happy to be able to support the work that Darren’s Ride is doing to assist people living with MND, ” she said.
