Development committee value adds to Bunbury projects

Kate FieldingSouth Western Times

Bunbury MLA Don Punch will form a new group which would work under the State Government in an effort to “add value” in implementing major projects in the city.

The Bunbury Development Committee would work directly under the Western Australia Planning Commission and would provide input on big projects such as the Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront project.

The idea was one of Mr Punch’s commitments under the Labor Government’s plan for Bunbury.

“It is anticipated such a development committee will add value to implementation of a number of projects, including the Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront,” Mr Punch said.

He said the structure and make-up of the committee would be at the discretion of Planning Minister Rita Saffioti.

“I look forward to working with her to deliver a new approach to development in Bunbury,” Mr Punch said.

One group which may be interested in a spot on the committee is the Bunbury Marine Facilities Alliance, which has played a major role in promoting the waterfront project.

While Mr Punch could not say who would be considered, he said he looked forward to working with the alliance which is chaired by Bunbury Geographe Chamber of Commerce and Industries president David Kerr.

“The input of key stakeholders is always a vital part of local planning processes,” Mr Punch said.

“I look forward to continued engagement with the chairperson of the Bunbury Marine Facilities Alliance in regards to the transforming the Bunbury waterfront project.”
