DFES issues severe weather warning for SW

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services has issued a severe weather warning for the South West.

Early this morning the department advised people to take action with severe weather expected later tonight.

Locations which may be affected include Albany, Bunbury, Katanning, Manjimup, Margaret River, Mount Barker and Narrogin.

The Bureau of Meteorology advised a low pressure system south-west of Jurien Bay would move south to the west of Bunbury by tonight.

The low-pressure system is expected to bring heavy rain that could lead to flash flooding over the far southern Lower West district, western Great Southern, western South Coastal and the South West.

Widespread daily rainfall totals of 50mm to 80mm are expected across the warning area, with isolated heavier falls in excess of 120mm possible.

DFES has advised that some roads may be closed and has urged drivers to take extra care and not drive into water without knowing its speed or depth.

People are urged to do what they can to help themselves, if it is safe to do so, before calling the SES for assistance
