Donnybrook comedian to share skills at writers festival

South Western Times

Former Donnybrook woman Andrea Gibbs will share her storytelling skills as a guest at the Big Sky Readers and Writers Festival.

The festival will feature 13 guest authors, illustrators, and photographers visiting Geraldton as presenters and Ms Gibbs, who is still a regular visitor to Donnybrook with her parents still living there, has been named as one of the highlights of the event.

Ms Gibbs is an actress, radio presenter, co-creator of Australia’s longest running storytelling show of it’s kind Barefaced Stories, has been a guest speaker at both Women of Letters with Marieke Hardy and TEDxPerth, winner of Triple J’s Raw Comedy State Final and is a core member of Perth’s premiere improv-comedy ensemble The Big Hoo-Haa!

During the Big Sky Readers and Writers Festival, held between May 5 and 7, Ms Gibbs, whose earliest memories of storytelling were listening to stories her mum about aliens landing in paddocks, will host a storytelling workshop.

She will be joined by multi award-winning Australian author Bruce Pascoe, bestselling psychological suspense writer Sarah Foster and more.

This year the event will be made up of 21 free and ticketed events and sessions designed to challenge, provoke, entertain, inspire and educate participants across the weekend.
