Driver airlifted after Myalup truck crash
A man has been airlifted to Perth with possible spinal injuries after a single-vehicle crash near Myalup, where his truck narrowly missed trees and power lines before crashing into a paddock.
The crash occurred just 5km from the site of a double fatality at Binningup on Sunday which took the lives of Eduardo Hernandes Pereira Rodrigues, 41, and Danielle Bileski de Mello Pimental, 37, and left their three young children in hospital.
Today’s crash occurred at 5.15am when the truck was heading south on Forrest highway near Forestry Road in Myalup.
Police say the driver lost control of the vehicle, hit the median strip and crossed over into the northbound lanes, with the vehicle crashing into a paddock.
St John Ambulance, DFES, local police and Harvey Fire and Rescue brigade crews attended the scene with the driver airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital.
Harvey Police officer-in-charge Sgt Scott Gillis said it was pure luck the crash was not more serious.
If it had been later in the morning there would have been oncoming traffic and this would have been a head-on collision.
He added the driver was lucky to be alive.
“He very narrowly missed trees and a power line,” Sgt Gillis said.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online at crimestopperswa.com.au.
