Eisteddfod attracts best
High calibre adjudicators across a range of disciplines will travel from across the country to judge the 2018 WA Performing Arts Eisteddfod for its milestone 60th anniversary season.
The program will begin on May 28, promising a huge line-up of South West talent.
This year’s team of adjudicators consists of Cara Phillips (speech and drama), Ashley Arbuckle (strings), John Pound (digital piano and percussion), Professor Alan Lourens (orchestras and bands specialist), Deby Holmes (dance), Dale Pointon (woodwind), Liz Pascoe (vocal), Dr Christine Logan (Pianoforte), Ian Toyne (contemporary vocal) and Dr Jonathon Welch (choral).
Eisteddfod administration officer Angelique Bavich said she was thrilled to welcome Dr Welch and Dr Logan to this year’s season.
“The calibre of adjudicators the eisteddfod manages to secure each year is getting better and better,” she said.
Dr Welch is a multi-award winning singing, conductor, teacher, songwriter and recording artist who’s career has spanned more than 30 years.
With more than 60 stage roles to his credit, Dr Welch has performed extensively in opera, musicals, theatre and in concert alongside many of the world’s greatest singers, directors and conductors including KD Lang, Baz Lurhmann, and Richard Bonynge.
“Dr Welch has also graciously accepted our invitation to be our new patron of the WA Performing Arts Eisteddfod and we are thrilled to have him on board,” Ms Bavich said.
“And Dr Christine Logan is an internationally celebrated pianist who is coming from Sydney – she is very renown in the pianoforte scene.”
Ms Bavich said having such experienced and high quality judges would push the participants to achieve their best.
“I was reading past performer Brodie Stewart’s biography the other day and he said following your dream and passion while being surrounded by other people who are on the same page and having so much talent concentrated in one little area just pushes you to go even further,” she said.
“Before you know it you have reached heights you never realised you could.”
