It will start to look a lot like Christmas when decorations, carols and perhaps even a visit from the big man in red himself takes over Bunbury Trotting Club this weekend.

The Christmas in July meet on Saturday will be a family-friendly event and it has already attracted bookings, according to general manager Julie Doble.

In its third year, the event will include entry, a race book, mystery bet and a festive three-course buffet.

“It’s just grown each year, it seems to be pretty popular with people,” Ms Doble said.

“We’ll have the room fully decorated and fitted out, we’ll have all our Christmas carols – it’s kind of weird, it’s like doing the time warp, you start stressing out that you haven’t bought any Christmas presents.”

The club’s “Beat the Tipster” competition has jackpotted to its highest amount yet at $350 and Ms Doble said Saturday’s event was a good chance to win it.

She said several businesses had already registered for the event and it was a good opportunity for a “mid-year warm up”.

“For the ones that are businesses we’ll give them a race name as well until we run out of names,” she said.

“It’s great to have a busy mid-winter night and it’s something to get a bit excited about,” she said.

The cost is $32.50 per head with children under five eating free and under 16s costing $15. To book call 9721 2768.
