The Printsync South West Slammers women’s play-offs hopes are still alive after a fantastic three-point victory in over-time against the Stirling Senators at the Eaton Recreation Centre on Sunday.

Both teams could not be separated after four quarters, with the Slammers needing an extra five minutes to claim the 85-82 win.

The fantastic performance came off the back of the hard work by stalwart Kate Fielding, who refused to let the Senators bully her younger, less experienced players around.

Her strength in defence inspired her teammates, who moved the ball well when going forward and set up a number of scoring opportunities.

The Slammers started slowly as Stirling import Jasmine Martin (36 points) found her range from the three-point line.

But the Slammers changed their tactics and started to look inside more, cutting the key and putting pressure on the Senators’ interior defence.

Slammer Georgia Denehey (22 points, six rebounds and six assists) was working tirelessly around the court, while imports Tori Fisher (13 points, nine rebounds) and Charlotte van Kleef (22 points, six rebounds) had one of their better games for the club.

Fielding was doing an excellent job to keep Janee Johnson (16 points, 11 rebounds) from having a big impact on offence, while the Slammers ran hard in transition and used the ball superbly when going forward.

The home side had the opportunity to claim the win with just four seconds left in regulation time, but a wayward pass missed Fisher and the game was forced into extra time.

From here the Slammers held their nerve to claim the fantastic win.
