Foodbank Bunbury faced it’s “most challenging time”
The COVID-19 crisis forced WA food relief organisation, Foodbank, to transform its business model in order to continue to provide the essential service.
With food and some grocery items being sought across the State, Foodbank WA faced its “most challenging time” in its 25 year history.
“We had many people coming in who were really struggling and at one point we were afraid that we wouldn’t have any food to give them,” Foodbank Bunbury manager Carol Hearn said.
“Our distribution centres were quickly transformed from a traditional grocery shopping experience to a hamper only service to allow us to continue to provide an essential service during this uncertain time.”
The Chamber of Minerals and Energy of WA COVID-19 community support initiative and funding from Southern Ports, Talison Lithium and Newmont enabled Foodbank WA to buy essential groceries to pack and distribute as COVID-19 Emergency Food Relief Hampers.
