FortiExpress Cyber Security Centre makes two-day visit to Bunbury

A $2 million cybersecurity truck rolled into town yesterday to show off the latest defence against online criminals.

Bunbury’s smart-city outlook made it the only city outside of Perth to get a visit from the 250sq m FortiExpress Cyber Security Centre.

Designed by American company Fortinet, the centre has been touring Australia since August after its success in North America and Europe.

Bunbury Geographe Chamber of Commerce chief executive Mark Seaward said it was a coup to get the truck to Bunbury. “We’re very excited to help provide these facilities ... it’s a unique offer to the businesses of Bunbury,” he said.

The experience includes live demonstrations on how Fortinet software responds to varying real-time threats.

Fortinet produces software and hardware used for defending electronics such as computers and smartphones from cyber attacks.

Fortinet WA State manager Gary Steenkamp said the experience would focus on education.

“We’re raising awareness of things people may never have considered,” Mr Steenkamp said.

He hoped the event could help solve a global shortage of cyber skills and get children interested in the industry.

Mr Steenkamp said it was an exciting opportunity for Bunbury businesses because many of them might not normally get to see this technology.

The main event for the centre will include 55 of Bunbury’s leading business people taking a comprehensive tour in a bid to raise cybersecurity awareness.

The public will also get a chance to take in the experience, with an open house between 7.30am and 9.30am today and tomorrow.

The centre will be set up in the Dolphin Discovery Centre carpark on Koombana Drive.
