Get ready for a Shootout

Australia’s best sprintcar drivers will descend on the South West this weekend as they look to etch their names in history by becoming a Krikke Boys Shootout champion.

Defending champion James McFadden heads a star-studded field which includes the likes of Krikke Motorsport driver Jamie Veal, Dave Murcott and the USA’s Carson Macedo.

Veal will look to become the first Krikke Motorsport driver since Brooke Tatnell in 2016 to win the Shootout, when the two nights of racing begins on Saturday.

Veal, the reigning WA sprintcar champion, said he was feeling in good touch ahead of the two nights of racing that begins on Saturday.

“The last race at Bunbury we got the win there, so that gives me a confidence boost going into it,” he said.

“But it is obviously a different format, being over two nights.”

Veal acknowledged there was a good contest between McFadden and himself in recent years and he said he enjoyed the rivalry.

“I love racing against James,” he said.

“We are good mates, but it is always good to beat him too.”

Veal likes the big track at Bunbury and is keen to again compete at his team’s home field.

“It is a bit easier on me as I have done a lot of big track racing,” he said.

“To get 30 cars there at this time of the year is a good effort.”

As part of the festivities, Myalup driver Brad Maiolo will continue his quest for a trifecta of AHG Sprintcar Series Championships when the final is held on night one of the Shootout.

All that is seemingly standing in the way of Maiolo’s third-straight title is an in-form Jason Kendrick, who is ahead of the number 77 driver by just eight points heading into the final round.

Kendrick (2332) and Maiolo (2324) are the clear favourites, but Brad’s brother Jamie Maiolo has a great history at Shootouts and is still a mathematical chance of claiming an upset win.
