Give a big ‘Wanjoo’ to Gina and Guy

Indigenous artists Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse will take over the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre with their award-winning voices this month.

With their hearts set on sharing Noongar language, the duo will offer the audience a fresh and modern take on ancient traditions.

Informed by the four principles of Koort (Heart), Moort (Family and Community), Boodja (Land) and Koorlangka (Children and Legacy), the pair will take audiences on an unforgettable journey.

“Over many years, Noongar language has been reduced to a whisper,” Ms Williams said.

“But in the same way the butterfly emerges from the cocoon, we are now witnessing a beautiful renaissance of language through song.”

The artists, whose music is a celebration of life, community and a shared humanity, will take over BREC for an evening performance on February 19.

Members of the South West community are invited to join Gina and Guy’s workshop on February 18.

The free community music and language workshop will be an interactive session of storytelling, music and collective singing.
