Goalkicking award to Houghton
For the second straight year a Collie Eagle has won the South West Football League’s leading goalkicker award, with Joel Houghton claiming the honours in 2017.
Houghton follows teammate Jayce Fontana, who tied with Bunbury’s Matt Martin for the award in 2016.
The former Fremantle Dockers’ listed player kicked 59 goals for the season to finish eight in front of another former Docker, Bunbury’s Brett Peake, with Busselton’s Aidan Fraser and South Bunbury’s Leigh Kohlmann finishing third with 39 goals.
The under-19 goalkicking award was shared by Lions forward Dylan Heasman and Harvey Bulls speedster Jacob Pickett, with the pair finishing on 29 goals, while potential draftee, Bunbury’s Patrick Farrant, kicked 23.
Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault’s Chris Strano won the reserves goalkicking award, booting 51 goals to finish ahead of Collie Eagles’ Luke Abbott (49) and teammate Shannon Sabourne (48).
Lions forward Taine Williams was the stand-out in the colts, kicking 63 goals to finish 16 ahead of Bunbury’s Coen Bradshaw and 22 ahead of Collie’s Ayden Parkin.
Bunbury captain-coach Trish Lake won the inaugural women’s goalkicking award, kicking 37 goals to finish 13 ahead of South Bunbury’s Bethany Bond.
