Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre will be able to bring a greater variety of shows to the region following a grant from Lotterywest.

Bunbury MLA Don Punch said the $125,000 grant would help BREC increase community access to its programs and services and develop new audiences for the arts in the Bunbury region.

“Lotterywest support will facilitate extensive creative learning opportunities at BREC that would not otherwise be available in the South West,” Mr Punch said.

“A strong arts sector is an important part of a healthy community and I have a strong appreciation for the work BREC is doing.”

Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre board chairman Simon Jacob said the money would be going towards program content, specifically supporting shows with some element of disadvantage or smaller community interest.

“Local content or small production content generally isn’t sufficient enough to attract an audience in a regional area like Bunbury, and in order to support a centre like BREC we rely on funding for community access,” Mr Jacob said.

“It is absolutely essential to keep bringing shows like this to BREC, without them we would lose a large amount of the content of the centre.”
