Hamish Gibson: Georgiana Molloy Anglican School teacher facing more charges in drug-laced lollipops probe

Further drug charges have been laid against an award-winning South West science teacher as part of a police investigation into drug-laced lollipops. Georgiana Molloy Anglican School teacher Hamish Kane Gibson appeared in Margaret River Magistrates Court today with two further charges of possession of drugs with intent to sell or supply. The new charges, one of which relates to MDMA, come after police had charged the South West father with possessing a category one or category two item without lawful excuse, and with hindering police. According to the police prosecutor the new charges come as part of the same incident where police raided the man’s Margaret River home in August this year as part of an investigation into the lollipops believed to be laced with drugs that police feared were being distributed among school kids. The investigation was launched after a teenager, who attends a different school to where Mr Gibson worked, suffered hallucinations and other symptoms after one of the suspect lollipops was given to him by a classmate. It’s understood police found an item they say was used to manufacture drugs during their raid on the man’s home, as well as MDMA and another prohibited drug. The charges come separate to the laced lollipops and Mr Gibson is not accused of their creation. A spokeswoman for the Anglican Schools Commission said: “The school advises that the staff member has been stood down until the matter is resolved.” The head of science at the Busselton school, Mr Gibson was named winner of a national science prize in 2017 for his “outstanding teaching” in the BHP Billiton Science and Engineering Awards. He was flanked by family, including wife Desiree Francis Gibson who was convicted four drug charges, including cultivating a prohibited plant, in August this year.
