Hawks still in the hunt after downing Bulls

Pierra WillixSouth Western Times

A fantastic performance from Brett Dobson helped Augusta-Margaret River claim a much-needed 20-point win over the Harvey Bulls at Gloucester Park on Sunday.

With the race for finals heating up, the Hawks were desperate for victory and got it with the 9.10 (64) to 6.8 (44) win.

Dobson was at his best for the Hawks, booting three goals and having a massive impact in the midfield. But it did not always look like a Hawks’ win, with the Bulls dominating the match early.

The windy conditions made it difficult for both teams to score and there were several important shots missed throughout the game.

The Bulls looked like they were set for a solid win when they kicked four goals in the first quarter, while holding the Hawks to just one. However, the Hawks stepped up in the second quarter and ended the half trailing by just six points.

The third quarter was a critical time for both teams, with the game hotly contested and each side applying plenty of pressure.

But, it was the Hawks who made the most of their home ground advantage to take the lead by three-quarter team.

Both teams had several goal scorers throughout the game, but Dobson and the Bull Jaxon Egan stood out, with three goals apiece.

The last quarter belonged to the Hawks, who put two more goals on the board, while holding the Bulls scoreless.
