Holiday fun unleashed in Bunbury

School holiday programs were in full swing yesterday as children across Bunbury embraced their holiday freedom.

The City of Bunbury’s Unleashed program was promising to be the best one yet with an impressive line-up of activities.

The program kicked off yesterday with an “Amaze-teen Race” across the CBD.

City of Bunbury youth and activation community partnership officer Danika Wellington said this year’s program provided more than just a fun time for students.

“We’ve really put a focus on skill development, so we’re making sure the program provides opportunities for the students to develop their skills,” Miss Wellington said.

“It’s about building up our young people.

“We also have lots of variety, we’ve tried to put on a range of activities to appeal to a range of interests.”

Other activities include junior marine biology at the Dolphin Discovery Centre, a filming crash course with Lomax Media, a public art workshop at Bunbury Regional Art Galleries, an outdoor adventure with Anywhere Adventures and billy cart making at South West Sports Centre.

And it appears the line-up has impressed, with spots booked up and organisers hoping to increase the program’s capacity.

“We’re ecstatic with the response – it’s been our most popular yet,” Miss Wellington said.

“And the majority haven’t been in Unleashed before, so it’s attracting new people.”

She said the program would be bigger again next holidays to cater for the positive response.

Bunbury Public and Withers Community libraries, the sports centre, BRAG and Bunbury Museum and Heritage Centre are also hosting school holiday activities.
