It will be a night of old world glamour and rustic charm when Bunbury’s glitterati don gowns and suits for the 49th South West Italian Club Ball.

A major highlight on the region’s social calendar, the annual event will be held on July 1 with new sponsors coming on board to make it bigger and better than ever.

Club president Frank Mustica said the ball would be a prelude to next year’s 50th anniversary celebrations with planning for the milestone event already under way.

“The theme is rustic, we are going back to the 60s – the Sophia Loren era of the old Italian movies,” Mr Mustica said.

“Although it is not on the day it is celebrated, it is for the anniversary of the Republic of Italy.

“The biggest drawcard this year is that we are sponsored by one of the local vineyards, Alkoomi Wines, and Fun Travel in Perth who have offered us a voucher of $2800 as a door prize.”

A seven-piece band from Perth will have the crowd up on their feet, with the night also including performances from Top Jazz Ballet and a four-course meal.

Mr Mustica said it would be a great opportunity for people to dress up and have a good time.

“There is traditional Italian dance and the band plays Italian and modern rock ‘n’ roll – it’s a nice mix,” he said.
