The ECU Souwest Jets defied a slow start to claim their third win of the WA Netball League season, when they defeated reigning premiers the West Coast Warriors 53-46 at the Eaton Recreation Centre on Friday night.

After recording just a draw last season, the Jets’ topside has come along in leaps and bounds in 2018.

Things did not start so well against the Warriors though, with the visitors starting strongly, leading 16-9 at the first break.

But a resilient Jets outfit refused to give up and coach Erin Culnane swung the changes.

Brooke Repacholi was brought into centre, while Harmony Sutherland was given the role of wing defence, which seemed to help with their better ball movement.

Once the Jets began to pass with precision, their shooters in Giselle Taylor and Maia Bratton began to score frequently.

By half-time they had a 27-25 lead and had swung the momentum their way.

The return of co-captain Jessica Repacholi, after a number of weeks off due to an injury, looked to give the Jets a boost and her hard work was beginning to allow Taylor and Bratton to dominate.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the court, defenders Ella Taylor and Riley Culnane were proving pivotal in stopping the Warriors from counter-attacking.

Despite a tough final term challenge from the Warriors, the Jets were able to claim the strong seven-goal victory.

This Jets take on the Rangers tomorrow night at the State Netball Centre, who defeated them by 14 goals in round one.
