Those quickest off the mark to sign up for an annual fun run will be winners before the race even starts with free t-shirts for the first 100 people to nominate.

The South West Academy of Sport is giving away the shirts for this year’s SWAS Telstra Fun Run.

The annual race around the Leschenault Inlet will happen again on March 17 when the community sporting event will provide an opportunity for people of all ages and abilities.

SWAS chief executive officer Bernice Butlion said the event had grown each year with a record number of people participating last year.

“Whether you are a serious runner or want to have a go just for fun, everyone is welcome to take part in this event that aims to encourage a healthy lifestyle and community spirit,” Mrs Butlion said.

“The event is family-friendly and prams and young children are welcome.”

All proceeds from the professionally timed event will go towards supporting SWAS, which provides local athletes with talent development opportunities in the region as they aspire to achieve on the biggest stages in sport.

People can enter a 10km, 5km or 2km run or a 5km walk in junior or senior categories – all of which have cash prizes up for grabs.

Prizes donated by Telstra will be awarded to the school with the most entrants.

Telstra and the Chefs’ Long Table Lunch have been acknowledged as making the fourth SWAS Telstra Fun Run possible.
