Kiosk return completes Koombana
The final piece of the Koombana Bay jigsaw puzzle will be in place when the revamped Hello Summer Beach Kiosk opens its doors at 9am today.
The kiosk – famous for its Hawaiian shaved ice – has undergone a major renovation as part of the Koombana Bay redevelopment project.
Owner Lisa White said the revamp had been a “massive” job and her team was looking forward to re-opening.
“It hasn’t been an easy road, but we got there and we’re just excited to finally open,” Mrs White said.
The beach was officially re-opened during the Koombana Foreshore Festival earlier this month, but the kiosk still needed some finishing touches.
Mrs White describes the kiosk’s menu as “casual beach food” with coffee, milkshakes, burgers and local fish and chips.
Manager Christie White said the team hoped to bring something new and fresh to Bunbury.
“We’re family friendly and just want to bring some fresh ideas so people of Bunbury can experience it,” Ms White said.
“We’re really trying to focus on providing something different that Bunbury doesn’t have.”
The kiosk will provide a table service option and will be open year-round, seven days a week from 9am.
The revamp involved a completely new fit-out and new furniture along with impressive wall art wraps including one from Aboriginal artist Troy Bennell.
Another wall in the kiosk features a wrap of a 1986 photo taken at Koombana Bay by resident Kristine Susan showing what the beach looked like more than three decades ago.
The kiosk will be open from 9am today and will open across the weekend throughout the Bunbury Beer & Cider Festival.
Mrs White thanked the generous support of the community during a disruptive start to summer.
