Krikke Motorsport claims round 12 victory in Bunbury
Jamie Veal closed the gap on World Series Sprintcars leader James McFadden after a tight win in round 12 at the QUIT Bunbury Speedway on Saturday night.
The Krikke Motorsport driver started from the front row for the 30-lap A-Main and held a slender lead from McFadden for much of the race.
A clean run in the final race of the night allowed Veal to make the most of the smooth Bunbury track and despite a late charge from McFadden in the final three laps, he made his first appearance in the W2 car in Bunbury one to remember.
American Carson Macedo kept his championship hopes alive after finishing third, despite starting the A-Main in seventh.
Veal set up his fantastic run in the final race after an excellent performance in the top-eight shootout earlier in the night, when he pushed all the way from fifth to second alongside McFadden.
“I had to get the start,” Veal said.
“I had a really good run in the feature. Everything seemed to work.
“It was about being patient.
“We were lucky enough to get him (McFadden) at the start there and carry a bit more speed at the corner.
“I had to keep him behind me after that.”
Veal said he set-up the night thanks to his performance in the shootout.
“You have to start up the front,” he said.
The Warrnambool driver said he had no nerves racing for Krikke Motosport in front of the Bunbury fans for the first time.
“We want to win as many races as we can. It doesn’t matter if it is here in Bunbury or back in Warrnambool,” he said.
“It was just good to do it in front of the whole (Krikke) family.”
Veal said he had also used Saturday night’s race as preparation for next month’s Krikke Boys Shootout.
Earlier in the night, Myalup’s Jamie Maiolo won the time trial, while Darren Mollenoyux won the B-Main from Brad Maiolo.
