Lambert ready to fly high in Belgium

South West cyclist Connor Lambert has packed his bags for a new life in Belgium as he aims to ruffle a few feathers on the European circuit.

Most people might be daunted by such a massive move, but Lambert does have an advantage.

“I have participated in four other seasons in Europe — one in the Netherlands, two in Belgium and one in Italy. Unfortunately the Italian season was during 2020, so I did not really get a full season,” he said.

“Funnily enough, the year I lived and raced in the Netherlands, it was down in South Limburg, which is near the region I will be living this year.

“I am only about 20km from my old home, so I already know the roads to train on, which will take an unbelievable amount of stress off me when I get there.

“I will be living there until the middle of October.

“I will be racing with my team, who are called X-Speed United. This will my first year racing at continental level.”

Instead of focusing on results and times, Lambert is content to draw on experiences from back home over the past year which have enhanced his personal growth.

“One thing would be mentality-based,” he said.

“I only really came to notice it while looking back at my old training. I’ve learned you have got to ignore the pain.

“It is not something I have outwardly worked on but it (pain tolerance) has come a long way from where it has been.”
