Long queues extending out the doors at the Bunbury COVID vaccination clinic has led to health authorities erecting temporary shade gazebos to shelter people from the scorching sun as they line up to get their jab.

The number of people receiving their jab at the State-run clinic, located at the Homemaker Centre Bunbury on Strickland Street, had already seen an increase in daily jab numbers earlier this month, jumping from pre-Christmas levels of about 500 people a day to between 800 and 1000 each day.

The State Government has scheduled February 5 as the date to begin easing interstate and international border restrictions, when WA is projected to have more than 90 per cent of the population double-dose vaccinated.

The rush to get vaccinated before February 5, plus the introduction in WA of the paediatric COVID-19 vaccine for children aged five to 11 years, has nearly doubled the intake at Bunbury’s COVID-19 vaccination clinic.
