Capel townsite will come alive on Saturday with the celebration of the Capel Shire Council’s annual family festival.

Acting CEO Mark Chester said this year’s Captivate Capel coincides with World Mental Health Day and would bring a range of performers, artists, food vendors and free family activities to the heart of Capel.

The free event and workshops are designed to improve mental health, resilience, reconnection and volunteering.

“We want to provide our community with memorable experiences that don’t break the bank,” Mr Chester said.

We’re focused on providing free events like Captivate Capel to help keep the community connected during the pandemic.

The event will provide support to local vendors with over 57 local businesses and organisations attending on the day.

“We’re encouraging residents from across the region to come on down and support local businesses, artists and entertainers,” Mr Chester said.

“Families can enjoy live music, artisanal products and food, while the kids enjoy the free activities at our activities hub.”

Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray on Thursday presented the council with a $15,000 Lotterywest grant to support the event.

“The WA Government, through Lotterywest, is extremely proud to be able to support community events such as Captivate Capel,” Mr Murray said.

“This is a fantastic event designed to help the Shire of Capel promote awareness of a very important issue, which has become even more pressing during an unprecedented year.”
