Miss Universe Australia candidate Macey Fimmano takes on 20km running challenge from Harvey to Myalup

Harvey’s Miss Universe Australia candidate has hit the ground running in her efforts to raise funds for cancer charity Camp Quality after taking on a 20km run challenge. Despite being diagnosed with asthma Miss Universe candidate Macey Fimmano took on the big run from her hometown of Harvey to the coast of Myalup. Raising a total of $2100 from locals and businesses Ms Fimmano said donations were not limited to money and the run was focused on raising awareness for Camp Quality. “Leading up to it I put a bit of pressure on myself because I wanted to do well for everyone because so many people were supporting me and cheering me on,” she said. “I always run five to ten kilometres because I have asthma, I have joint problems and I have muscle problems so I don’t ever do more than 10km because my knees and hips start to give in,” she said. “Mentally it was easy because I was in a beautiful place and it just felt amazing, striving for something so big for something so important.” With her heart set on ending the charity effort with a swim in the ocean Ms Fimmano ran an extra 3km on top of her 20km goal. “I got to 20km and then I realised it was another 3km until the beach so I kept running.” “I’ve always thought to myself it would be cool to run to the beach so I just thought it was the perfect opportunity.” Having now raised more than $7000 for Camp Quality through ToyBox Australia — as part of the Miss Universe competition — Miss Fimmano said the experience has been amazing. “I’m so grateful to embark on a journey like this, I didn’t know what I was getting in to but I knew it was a path I could go down to reach and help more people and I feel like I’m really achieving that,” she said. Ms Fimmano said she is thankful to all the local Harvey businesses who sponsored the run and supported by donating to ToyBox Australia for Camp Quality to “help sick children smile”.
