Despite early foul trouble, the South West Slammers men’s team was well in contention against the Perry Lakes Hawks on Saturday night in Perth.

However a frustrating second quarter — when they were outscored 37-8 — ended their hopes of victory, with the Hawks cruising 110-65 by game’s end.

Slammers boss Shane Goff and his players had a solid debrief post-game and are well aware of what is required in Saturday’s road clash against the Warwick Senators.

“It was one quarter where they just murdered us in every aspect of the game,” Goff said.

“Their (Hawks) ability to spread on defence was uncanny — it was something I’ve not seen so far this year — so credit to coach Matt Parsons.

“He did his homework on what was required to put the game beyond our reach as early as possible.”

The Senators will provide a stern test, but Goff believes his men are good enough to compete hard against them.

“Our focus on Saturday will be solely on looking after the ball,” he said. “The Senators are a superstar team. Another which are well coached and financed.

“They are a powerhouse of the league and the envy of clubs within all of the NBL1 States.

“They are a great team, been together a long time, but we just have to believe in ourselves and our ability.”
